Timeless Tropical Class Cards

Hi,

Thanks for stopping by my blog today.

Today I'm sharing the cards we made at a recent class featuring the Timeless Tropical stamp set and dies from Stampin' Up!

There were a few techniques thrown in for good measure, as well as a fancy fold card. The ladies found this class a bit challenging, messy and fun!

Here's the first card, which is called a Flip Flap card.

When you (gently) pull on the tag, the front flap opens like this:

Revealing another greeting. The card also opens up to give plenty of room to write a personal message:

I gave this to my husband for his birthday, he was impressed!

For the front of the card I embossed a piece of Crumb Cake card stock with the Coastal Weave 3D embossing folder after I had swiped a Crumb Cake stamp pad on one side of the embossing folder. For the layer underneath I sponged the edges a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock with Mossy Meadow ink.

The smaller panel on the front of the card is Very Vanilla on a Mossy Meadow cardstock mat. The trees were stamped in Mossy Meadow and Crumb Cake. First I inked up the top of the tree stamp with Mossy Meadow from the stamp pad, then I wiped off any green ink on the trunks. I then used the brush tip of a Crumb Cake marker to add colour to the rubber, before stamping onto the panel. The greeting is from the Perennial Birthday stamp set, which I stamped in Mossy Meadow ink.

The flap underneath is another smaller piece of Very Vanilla matted onto Mossy Meadow cardstock. I used one of the images from the Gallery Grunge stamp set to create a background (stamped off first) in Crumb Cake ink, then stamped the greeting from Perennial Birthday in Mossy Meadow.

I learned how to do the mechanism for this card from a video by Bev Adams, which you can see HERE. I was inspired by her card, but changed a few things to suit what I had.

After making this card for my class ladies, I knew the other cards had to be a bit easier and quicker to make. Here is the second card.

For this card I stamped the large hibiscus image in Memento black ink onto a Whisper White panel several times. I then coloured in the flowers using various Stampin' Blends alcohol markers, which I've listed below. After the colouring was done I decided to emboss the panel using the Subtle 3D embossing folder. Here is a close up to show the texture.

I matted the white panel onto Basic Black cardstock, then adhered this to a Mango Melody card base. I added the greeting strip of white on black and some sequins for bling (and for covering up a smudge or two). I also used the Clear Wink of Stella glitter brush to add a subtle sparkle to the flower centres.

The third card was what I call a fun and messy card.

To create this card I first die cut the pineapple pieces from Watercolour paper. Then the messy fun starts. I spritzed the pieces with water, sprinkled Mango Melody on the bottom piece and Granny Apple Green pigment sprinkles on the top piece, and spritzed again.

Then I left these to dry while I made the rest of the card elements.

The background panel I used was a piece of Whisper White stamped with the Crackle Paint background stamp in Sahara Sand ink. This was adhered onto a Thick Whisper White card base. The label was cut from a piece of patterned paper using one of the Stitched Nested Label dies. The Frangipani flower was stamped in Sahara Sand ink on a scrap of Whisper White and coloured in with Stampin' Blends alcohol markers. I stamped the greeting in Sahara Sand ink on another scrap of Whisper White and sponged the edges in the same colour.

When the pineapple pieces were dry I layered everything together on the card front and used Dimensionals to adhere the pineapple. I folded a short piece of the Braided Burlap trim, stapled it together and used a glue dot to adhere it behind the greeting.
