Pastels technique for the Stamping With Friends Blog Hop

Stamping with Friends blog hop
Hi,

Thanks for stopping by my blog today. It's time for another Stamping with Friends blog hop and this time we are focusing on techniques.

If you came from Deb's blog, welcome!

I was inspired by Audra Monk at the Maker's Mojo online retreat in July. She showed a few techniques using the Soft Pastels, and of course I had to get them.

Here is my card:

Peaceful Deer on pastels card

The technique is to emboss a dark colour cardstock with an embossing folder - I used Basic Black and the fir tree branches one of the Wintry 3D embossing folders. Then lightly drag a Versamark stamp pad over the embossed piece so that the raised areas get some Versamark on them. The next step is to rub one (or more) of the Soft Pastels lightly over the raised areas - the chalk will stick to the Versamark. I started with the Granny Apple Green colour, then went over with the Mango Melody colour. I did give the panel a quick spray with a fixative spray, but that is optional. You can lightly dab with a tissue to remove any loose chalk dust. I like the subtle effect as a background.

The card base is Evening Evergreen cardstock, cut to a standard size in Australia: 14.8cm x 21cm, scored and folded to 14.8cm x 10.5cm. I cut one of the papers from the Tidings of Christmas pack to 14.3cm x 10cm and sponged the edges with Evening Evergreen ink, and glued it to the card front. I matted the embossed panel onto Granny Apple Green cardstock.and adhered that to the card front.

I used the Deer punch to punch the deer from the Be Dazzling specialty paper and used a mini glue dot to hold the antlers behind the head. I used Dimensionals to attach the deer to the card front, as well as the greeting banner, which is stamped in Evening Evergreen ink on Basic White.

To finish off the deer I added a Red Rhinestone for the nose.

To continue on the hop, head on over to Karen's blog!
